Hovercraft durability is the main component of the Hov Pod ethos. Hov Pod are designed with hovercraft durability in mind, compared to other craft it is the class leader made from high quality durable parts & with many features unique to the Hov Pod such as HDPE impact resistant hulls, anti rip skirts, rear guarding, ease of operation, anti plough (most craft dig in at high speed) & unlike most other craft (which actually will sink if flooded) contain complete integral flooded conditions buoyancy.

All terrain vehicles need to be very strong & take punishment in day to day use over ice, water debris, stones, rocks, rough terrain and bumps and dips in the surface. The Hov Pod SPX is unique as it is the only hovercraft made from HDPE. The weight to strength ratio for TCC HDPE is superior to nearly all other materials, this is why it is used for kayaks that continually hit and ride off submerged rocks. HDPE has also been used to create artificial joints, ice rink puck impact plates & F1 crash barriers.

The TCC 3-layer composite High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), is lightweight, extremely buoyant, yet far stronger & more impact resistant than brittle glass fiber (GRP) which cracks & breaks on impact. You can hit HDPE with a mallet or jump up & down on it without cracking it, this means the Hov Pod can withstand operational use, impacts, knocks & bumps that destroy other craft. The hull of the SPX has a 5 year warranty.

HDPE is also significantly easier than nearly all materials to modify and adapt to attach mounts and extra equipment.

We are the only company to fully manufacture the whole hull and duct incorporating HDPE or carbon Fiber/Kevlar across the full surface, many companies will claim to use it but in fact owing to its cost they use it sparingly. Our Infinity craft we leave natural colored as you can see the black carbon weave throughout the hull. The Hull of the Infinity has a 5 year warranty.

Most other craft you could not sit on the sides while climbing in or place weight on parts of the hull and a lightweight construction means impacts could easily damage the hull. The reason why do this is to keep weight down so they can use lightweight hull and components to maximize payload. Clearly this is fine as long as the hull is not damaged.

The Hov Pod SPX Hovercraft is the only hovercraft currently available manufactured from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Equally Carbon Kevlar composite as used on the carbon range of Hov Pod craft is common to many high tech industries but has very rarely been applied to a full hovercraft hull in a production environment. Not only is HDPE incredibly durable but is inherently buoyant as it contains the foam buoyancy in the wall. The Hov Pod SPX is extremely buoyant & will float if swamped with water, whereas glass fiber craft can sink. Fiberglass craft rely on buoyancy chambers so should the hull be punctured &/or air compartments take on water, become ruptured or flooded the craft can sink. Thin GRP also suffers from cracking and de-lamination and other hidden problems and will very quickly become tarnished.

Our proprietary skirt design is a unique polyurethane / nylon weave & fabric combination with anti-rip properties & incredible wear resistance. Hov Pod are engineered for full-time daily production and the Hov Pod skirt is designed to put in overtime. The unique anti-plough IAPSS skirt design gives far greater flexibility, continued operational ability & high speed safety against rapid and sudden deceleration.

The Hov Pod SPX is in a class of its own, designed by CAD & made on CAM machines from highly durable materials & processes. This means that components such as the drive parts are made to high levels of accuracy & quality for increased operational durability, safety & reliability. The Hov Pod unlike many other craft is also designed for salt water operation with enclosed quick lift off engine covers & parts such as high specification electrical components & stainless steel fittings to minimize corrosion & increase operational reliability & safety.

The Hov Pod SPX has been specifically designed for all terrain & marine use & to overcome operational issues that plague other craft. The craft has one simple set of controls which can be mastered in minutes & this together with high durability, safety & quality levels incorporated as standard, make the Hov Pod an ideal craft for anyone, be it for patrol, rescue, survey, commercial or recreational use.

Superior Hovercraft Durability

As an example our demonstrator craft has been driven up and own our local debris infested river and tidal banks on average twice a week for 4 years. In that time we demonstrate the hulls durability by going over rubble, blocks, stones etc and after 4 years of this recently turned our hull over to replace the sacrificial skids we fit………….no hull damage had occurred despite regular knocks and bangs and a few heavy impacts with larger debris lying on the shore. After 4 years of use the owner is far more satisfied to have chosen Hov Pod as a material that withstands these knocks as opposed to an alternative hull material that is severely worn down, damaged or has shattered into pieces, sometimes in only 6 months.

We also recently had to conduct rescue training for various military and special forces teams where we were told to launch the craft in many different areas. You cannot always go from a nice smooth slipway we were told (quite correctly) so we tested the craft leaving and returning to broken concrete ramps, boulder strewn banks, deep gullies that we dropped into, mangrove bushes and all manner of other areas. The idea was to see what punishment the craft could take on these rescue missions before repairs were required. We were quite staggered that after several days of this virtually no damage had been sustained apart from light marking and small local surface abrasions and indents.

The hull of the SPX Series is made entirely from HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and is molded into an extremely lightweight, buoyant and damage resistant shell. The hull of the Infinity is a proprietary blend of Carbon Fiber and Kevlar, the material used in bullet proof vests.  The hulls for each the SPX and Infinity carry a 5 year warranty.
